When a Great School Finally Gets a Website to Match
There's a particular kind of project we love at Fix8 Media. It's the one where the organization has been doing genuinely good work for years, maybe decades, and their website just hasn't kept up. The people are great, the mission is clear, the community trusts them. But online? The first impression doesn't reflect any of that.
That's exactly what we found when we started working with a well-established Catholic elementary school in Rochester, NY. Affiliated with the Diocese of Rochester and certified by the State of New York, the school serves Pre-K through Grade 5 with an enrollment of around 150 students. It's a tight-knit community with strong values, a committed staff, and parents who genuinely believe in what the school is doing. What they needed was a website that said all of that in about five seconds.
So we got to work.
Starting With the Logo
Before we touched a single web page, we talked about brand. A website redesign on top of a shaky visual identity is like painting a room before you fix the walls. The old logo wasn't bad, but it felt dated and didn't give the school the presence it deserved when placed next to other materials, whether that's a letterhead, a yard sign, or a social media profile.
We worked with the school leadership to develop a refreshed logo that honors the school's identity and Catholic heritage while bringing it into the present. Clean lines, better proportions, the kind of mark that holds up at any size. The goal was never to make it trendy. It was to make it timeless.
Getting a logo right before the website goes up matters more than most people realize. Every color decision, every font choice, every button on the new site flows from that foundation. When the brand is solid, the website design process gets a lot smoother.
What the Website Needed to Do
School websites have a specific job. They're not just informational brochures. They're how prospective families decide if they want to pick up the phone or schedule a tour. They're how current families find the calendar, contact a teacher, or understand school policies. And for a faith-based school especially, the site needs to communicate culture, not just facts.
A few things we focused on:
Clear, Welcoming First Impression
When a parent lands on the homepage, they should immediately understand what kind of school this is. Warm, academic, rooted in faith, and genuinely invested in kids. We built the homepage to do that heavy lifting right away, with strong imagery, a clear message, and navigation that doesn't make you think too hard.
Easy Navigation for Two Very Different Audiences
Prospective families and current families want different things. Prospective families want to know: What's the program? What's the community like? How do I apply? Current families want to know: What's happening this week? Who do I contact? We structured the site so both groups can find what they need without digging.
Representing the School's Academic Credentials
Being certified by the State of New York and affiliated with the Diocese of Rochester isn't just administrative detail. It's a trust signal. Parents choosing a private elementary school are making a significant decision, and credentials like these belong front and center, not buried in a footer or an "About" page nobody clicks.
Mobile-First, Always
School parents are busy. They're checking the website on their phone in a parking lot or at a kitchen table after the kids are in bed. A site that's hard to use on mobile isn't just annoying, it's a missed connection. Every page, every section was built to work beautifully on any screen.
The Result
What we ended up with is a website that actually represents the school. It's clean, it's warm, it loads fast, and it gives families the information they need without making them work for it. The new logo and the site work together as a cohesive identity, which is what a brand is supposed to be.
Schools like this one have been part of their communities for generations. The work they do matters. And when families are searching online for the right fit for their child, a well-built website can be the thing that gets them to make the call.
That's what we're here for.
If your school, nonprofit, or small business has been doing great work with a website that doesn't show it, we'd love to talk.
